Friends (16th-17th of March)

In these two days we were talking about our friends and what they mean to us :) We found answers to such questions as -

  • 1. What is the difference between good friend and best friend?
  • 2. What can we do with our friends?
  • 3. Is it possible for boys and girls to be close friends? Is it possible or not to fall in love with your best friend (if they are opposite genders)?

And here are some idioms related to friends and friendship

friend in need is a friend indeed

A true friend is a person who will help you when you really need help. When Bill helped me with geometry, I really learned the meaning of "A friend in need is a friend indeed."

fair-weather friend

Fig. someone who is your friend only when things are pleasant or going well for you. Bill stayed for lunch but he wouldn't help me with the yard work. He's just a fair-weather friend. A fair-weather friend isn't much help in an emergency.

fast friends

good, loyal friends. The two of them had been fast friends since college.

Lend your money and lose your friend.

Prov. You should not lend money to your friends; if you do, either you will have to bother your friend to repay the loan, which will make your friend resent you, or your friend will not repay the loan, which will make you resent your friend. Bill: Joe needs a hundred dollars to pay his landlord. I'm thinking about lending it to him. Alan: Lend your money and lose your friend.

Class - Healthy Lifestyle

Today our class is about Healthy Lifestyle!

Here are some IDIOMS related to this topic!

*in the best of health
very healthy. (*Typically: be ~; get oneself ~.) Bill is in the best of health. He eats well and exercises. I haven't been in the best of health. I think I have the flu.

nurse someone back to health
to care for a sick person until good health returns. Sally was glad to help nurse her mother back to health. She nursed her children back to health when they all had the flu.

picture of (good) health
in a very healthy condition. The doctor says I am the picture of good health. Each of the children is the picture of health.

a clean bill of health
if you give someone or something a clean bill of health, you examine them and state that they are healthy, in good condition, or legal John will have to stay at home until the doctors give him a clean bill of health. Of 30 countries inspected for airline safety only 17 received a clean bill of health.

Class - Countries

Countries

Here I have found some idioms regarding our topic today. Enjoy

Country mile

a great distance. The batter knocked that ball a country mile. I had to walk a country mile to the next gas station.

Happy is the country which has no history.

Prov. Since history tends to record only violent, unfortunate, or tumultuous events, a country with no history would be a country lucky enough to have no such unhappy events to record. The history of our country is so full of greed, violence, and dishonesty; happy is the country which has no history.

So many countries, so many customs.

Prov. People in different countries have different ways of behaving. In the last place I visited, it was considered rude to put your hands on the table at dinner, but here, it's rude to keep them under the table. so many countries, so many customs.

Go to the country (British & Australian slightly formal)

if a government or the leader of a government goes to the country, they have an election. The Prime Minister has decided to go to the country next spring.

Changes for February

Hi all :) Thanks for being with me :)
As the title of this post say -  there are some changes to my plans with classes! From the next month - February - I will add another day for groups. The best day so far seems to be Friday.
Another thing - Many of You are coming to classes more than one time. The first class is for free and always will be. If You like my classes and want to attend more than one You will have to pay a small amount of money. From $1 to $2 per each upcoming class!

Thank You very much
